Job Description

As Studio Engineer you will maintain and support all aspects of the studio’s daily operations by providing technical support to the production team.  The ideal candidate is well connected in the broadcast industry, having worked in or with major networks or affiliated stations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain studio, webcast and broadcast control rooms, editing systems, signal distribution, lighting, cameras, video switchers and audio consoles along with audio/video monitors and data storage
  • Work with General Manager and Director of Business Development to create a sales strategy that drives broadcast opportunities and creates new revenue streams and make introductions to the appropriate contacts
  • Understanding of engineering practices and policies to ensure signal quality throughout the studio; must be able to read and understand schematic drawings, have a working knowledge of video/audio signal formats as well as computers and network systems
  • Ensure production equipment used by field crew is properly maintained
  • Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment according to routine maintenance program
  • Provide upgrade suggestions for all equipment including software and hardware
  • Work with external vendors to resolve equipment and technical issues when necessary
  • Maintenance records and studio documentation must be current at all times
  • Ability to develop new processes which will improve the daily function of the studio
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology in order to provide annual capital expenditure recommendations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting studio engineering, webcast and broadcast systems
  • BSEE degree from an accredited institution or an associate degree in electrical or electronic engineering is preferred
  • Experience and understanding of Granicus encoding system and web-streaming
  • Experience with Chyron graphics systems and Grass Valley switchers
  • Experience with Telemetrics camera controls
  • Strong understanding of both Apple OS and Microsoft Windows OS skills required
  • Strong communication skills to obtain effective results from staff and vendors; ability to communicate problems and solutions with both technical and non-technical staff
  • Effectively organize and prioritize tasks while working effectively under the pressure of production timelines
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and demands on their time while being flexible to change
  • Savvy technical skills and mechanical ability; will be required to troubleshoot, disassemble, repair and install electronic equipment by combining electronic theory and logic (both analog and digital)
  • Experience with small hand tools, power tools and test equipment
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and work on ladders over 12 feet in height
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and clean driving record is required
  • Must be able to lift and pull cable overhead and under flooring
  • Must be able to perform basic soldering of connectors and electrical parts
